Shimomeguro - Fine Art Print

Size Guide
  • Capturing the beauty of the original artwork

Every one of our prints is made using the Giclee printing process, for a museum-quality look and feel that does justice to the original art.

Giclee printing is the gold-standard for preserving the meticulous detail and stunning colors that we love in the Japanese masters. All our prints are fade and fingerprint resistant, so you can enjoy their beauty for years to come.

We chose to offer 12”x18” (30cm x 45cm) as this was closest to the “chuban” size sheets used for woodblock prints historically.

All of our prints come with matte finish for a more authentic appearance.

    Framing Options:

    • Unframed
    • Framed - black
    • Canvas wrap

    Ready-to-Hang and Made to Last

Mounting brackets are included and centered on our framed prints and canvas wraps.

All of our prints are made to last, with fade-resistant colors and materials. See how they arrive in the unboxing videos below.

  • About the Art

The ShimoMeguro is one of the renowned works of Katsushika Hokusai's legendary series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji depicting an eye-soothing view of an agrarian culture. This print was portrayed back then when Meguro was famous for the daimyo’s falconry field and used to be farmland during the Edo period.

Hokusai has enchantingly depicted the scenario by projecting diverse elements in the print. The distant snow-topped Fuji contributes a magnificent beauty to the scene. Along with this, the print is depicted with farmers, falconers, a housewife, and children, describing the state of then Meguro when the male figure used to do the outdoor work portrayed here with a hoe going outside and the female figure is taking care of her children and household chores. Beside, Hokusai has also represented the famous practice of falconry portraying two falconers and a genuflecting farmer towards them. Hokusai has also painted so intricately the vegetable fields with a step-like pattern, the thatched roof of the residence, and farmland.

This print is a masterpiece having an astounding amalgamation of Mount Fuji, agronomic culture, and greenery of then Meguro which has the capability to cast a spell on the eyes of the spectators.
