Mount Fuji In Clear Weather (Red Fuji) (1830) - Fine Art Print

Size Guide
  • Capturing the beauty of the original artwork

Every one of our prints is made using the Giclee printing process, for a museum-quality look and feel that does justice to the original art.

Giclee printing is the gold-standard for preserving the meticulous detail and stunning colors that we love in the Japanese masters. All our prints are fade and fingerprint resistant, so you can enjoy their beauty for years to come.

We chose to offer 12”x18” (30cm x 45cm) as this was closest to the “chuban” size sheets used for woodblock prints historically.

All of our prints come with matte finish for a more authentic appearance.

    Framing Options:

    • Unframed
    • Framed - black
    • Canvas wrap

    Ready-to-Hang and Made to Last

Mounting brackets are included and centered on our framed prints and canvas wraps.

All of our prints are made to last, with fade-resistant colors and materials. See how they arrive in the unboxing videos below.

  • About the Art

“Southern Wind, Clear Morning” was one of the prints that helped secure Hokusai’s fame and popularity, both within Japan and overseas. Critics describe this woodblock print as "one of the simplest and at the same time one of the most outstanding of all Japanese prints".

The work is thought to depict the rare phenomenon seen on exceptionally clear early mornings from summer through to fall, when the wind is sufficiently southerly and sky clear, in which the flooding of the dawning light dyes the surface of Mount Fuji red.

Hokusai captures this moment with compositional abstraction. It is colloquially known as "Aka Fuji" (Red Fuji).

With "Red Fuji", Hokusai shows complex and rich expression through the beautiful gradations of the print. It transitions from brown to red while the grain of the woodblock faintly emerges from beneath. This masterpiece captures the fair, even solemn form of the mountain bathing in the morning sun.

The print hails from Hokusai’s Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series, dating from c. 1830 to 1832.
