  • Capturing the beauty of the original artwork

Every one of our prints is made using the Giclee printing process, for a museum-quality look and feel that does justice to the original art.

Giclee printing is the gold-standard for preserving the meticulous detail and stunning colors that we love in the Japanese masters. All our prints are fade and fingerprint resistant, so you can enjoy their beauty for years to come.

We chose to offer 12”x18” (30cm x 45cm) as this was closest to the “chuban” size sheets used for woodblock prints historically.

All of our prints come with matte finish for a more authentic appearance.

  • About The Art

Ejiri in Suruga Province is one of the famous prints which is so intricately portrayed by Katsushika Hokusai capturing the eye-soothing beauty of Mount Fuji during a blowing wind. This woodblock print is also widely known by its famous name A Sudden Gust of Wind as it depicts the spectacular ambience that has a sophisticated specialty having both ocular and auditory beauty of the wind.

The action in this print is set in Ejiri, which was a post-station on the Tokaido Highway west of Suruga Bay, close to a place which is now recognized as Shimizu City. The delicate highlight of Japan’s signature mountain is so exquisitely retained as the placid background and against it, the boisterous wind creates a paradoxical beauty of nature. The human characters fabricated there with the dynamic wind enlighten the scenario by making it lively in a jesting way. Hokusai vividly flourished the sinuous path in the midst of fenland using the windblown folks struggling against the wind to protect the objects from the energetic wind. The animated folks contribute several divergent actions differing from one another and creating multiple humor in the scenario. The windblown dual trees discharging its brown leaves, the windblown hat flying in the sky, the windblown papers scattering from the folk have an astonishing appeal that attracts the eyes of the audience.

Hokusai so dazzlingly painted this masterpiece by retaining every single detail which makes it stunning having a lively touch. An attractive remote view of tranquil and motionless Mount Fuji is so subtly tinted as the backdrop of a dynamic circumstance of a gusty wind by Hokusai. This marvelous beauty has the sheer capability of casting a spell on the spectators.
